Company linked to proposed baseball stadium on delinquent property tax list

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The owners of property where a proposed baseball stadium may go have struck out in their taxes.

Riverfront Holding’s II LLC is listed as owing New Hanover County more than $43,000. Chuck Schoninger, an agent for the company has recently pitched his idea for a north downtown development, which includes a baseball stadium.

WWAY tried to reach out to Schoninger for a comment, but he did not return our call.

More than $5.2 million is owed to the county this year on 4,600 delinquent properties. Taxes for 2011 became delinquent on January 6, 2012. Property owners who failed to make payment by that date are now liable for the amount due, plus interest and an additional $2.50 to cover the cost of advertising. Under North Carolina General Statute, counties are required to advertise delinquent taxes each year.

The county’s tax department released the list Friday evening.
