Durham County officials hope to identify woman

DURHAM, NC (AP) — Durham County officials are looking for help in identifying a woman who arrived in the area about two years ago without any identification and who has been diagnosed with catatonic schizophrenia.

The Herald-Sun of Durham reported that the woman originally gave her name as Jacqueline Fulton and said she was from Kentucky. But none of that information could be corroborated.

The woman has stopped speaking and is in the guardianship of the county Department of Social Services. The department wants to connect her with family or anyone else who can identify her.

DSS officials say the county is paying $1,800 a month for room and board at a family care home. Without identification, officials cannot get aid such as Social Security or Medicaid for her.
