STORMTRACK 3: Storms prompt Tornado, Severe T-storm Watches
SOUTHEASTERN NC (WWAY) — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of our area, including Bladen, Columbus and Robeson Counties until 2 a.m. A Tornado Watch is in effect for counties just to the north of our viewing area until 11 p.m. Cumberland and Sampson Counties are currently under the Tornado Watch, which means there are severe thunderstorms forming that have the potential to spawn tornadoes.
The combination of a strong system moving in from the west and the warm weather has created strong and severe storms in the Carolinas and along the East Coast. These scattered storms can be expected to continue throughout Saturday evening and overnight. Some scattered storms could linger into Sunday as the system continues to make its way offshore.
The biggest threats associated with these storms include damaging wind gusts and hail. The possibility of tornadoes is low but cannot be ruled out.
Stick with WWAY online and on-air for all the latest watches and warnings.
