NHSO: Family of thieves busted

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies say they’ve made arrested suspects in a breaking and entering that show crime can be a family business.

The sheriff’s office says it started with a call around noon yesterday from the owner of a vacant home on Carolina Beach Road. The caller said he stopped by the house because he noticed a vehicle at the residence. When he got there, he discovered metal and copper missing from the home and saw four men leaving the house. Three of the suspects left in a vehicle and one ran into the woods.

Deputies caught William Daniel Watkins, 24, hiding in the woods. Other deputies noticed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in Snows Cut Park. They arrested the the driver, Timothy Edward Watkins, 22, and Gregory Ski McMahon, 31, and his son, who is a juvenile, who were hiding in the tree line, after the victim identified them.

Investigators say William Watkins and Timothy Watkins, who are brothers, have been charged with breaking and entering, larceny, property damage and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Gregory McMahon is facing multiple breaking and entering charges, larceny, property damage, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His son was released to his grandfather.
