NC student accused of tainting teacher’s drink
BEAR CREEK, N.C. (AP) – Authorities have filed a felony charge against a student at a Chatham County high school after surveillance video showed him tampering with a teacher’s drink.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that 16-year-old Charles Ronald Hart Aschenauer of Gulf is charged with felonious distribution of certain prohibited foods.
Staff Sgt. Michael A. Szpunar said he reviewed surveillance video footage and saw Aschenauer first spitting into the bottle last Friday at Chatham Central High School, then adding the lubricant oil about 20 minutes later. The teacher became ill after drinking from the bottle on Monday.
Chatham County Schools spokeswoman Beth McCullough said Aschenauer has been disciplined by the school, but she didn’t elaborate.
Aschenauer is free on an unsecured bond. It wasn’t known if Aschenauer had an attorney.
