Richmond, VA also contemplating building new baseball stadium
RICHMOND, VA (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH) — Is the Richmond area willing and able to invest in a baseball venue that will cost about $50 million?
The Richmond Flying Squirrels and the city have agreed that the best place for a new stadium is Richmond’s fleet maintenance facility on the Boulevard, adjacent to The Diamond, but there is no firm plan. Financing remains the missing piece.
The Diamond, a symmetrical concrete stadium with plenty of steps but not much soul, was built in seven months for $8 million. By 2000, it had begun to show its age. By 2008, the Braves had enough after years of pushing for a new facility. The baton was passed to the Squirrels.
