NC deadline for personal care services pushed back

RALEIGH, NC (AP) – Gov. Bev Perdue’s administration says federal Medicaid regulators have given the state an extension until the end of the year to comply fully with new requirements about personal care services.

Health and Human Services Secretary Al Delia told the General Assembly’s chief state government oversight committee Wednesday that it won’t have to meet a May 1 deadline to carry out changes demanded by the federal government.

Federal regulators say the state must provide the same qualifications for in-home recipients of personal care services as for those living in adult care homes.

Delia told lawmakers the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services also have approved changes to personal care services.

The adult care home industry has been worried the changes or missing the deadline could put homes out of business.
