Wake Forest examines value of college education
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — With the cost of college soaring despite the sluggish economy, Wake Forest University is hosting a conference to examine the value of a liberal arts education in today’s world.
The “Rethinking Success” conference, scheduled to run Wednesday through Friday, will look at whether universities are fulfilling the mission of preparing students for life after college.
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be the keynote speaker at a conference including faculty and administrators from dozens of universities, ranging from Ivy League schools to large public universities. Andy Chan is vice president of Personal and Career Development at Wake Forest. He says universities have to help connect what students learn in the classroom with the world of work waiting for them after graduation.
