Last ‘Violins of Hope’ performance in NC scheduled

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — The last performance in North Carolina with restored violins played at Jewish concentration camps and other places will feature master violinist Shlomo Mintz.

The Charlotte Symphony performance with instruments from the “Violins of Hope” exhibit at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is scheduled for Saturday at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte.

The program includes the Beethoven “Violin Concerto” and Barber’s “Adagio for Strings,” as well as music by Mahler and traditional Jewish works.

The “Violins of Hope” exhibit includes 18 violins with connections to the vanished world of Europe’s prewar Jewish communities. The exhibit at UNC Charlotte Center City closes Tuesday.
