Modeling fashions for domestic violence awareness
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Domestic violence is an issue that tears apart homes and lives. But for more than 25 years, the Domestic Violence Shelter & Services of Wilmington has been working to restore those affected.
Today marked the organization’s 20th Annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction. It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year and goes to help women, children and men who fall victim to domestic abuse. The non-profit provides emergency shelter and on-going support services.
“Not everyone will come forward. Not everyone is going to acknowledge that they need help,” said Diane Lomax, the shelter’s Director of Operations. “But when they do need help and when they are ready to seek help, we are there to help them.”
During the fashion show, volunteers modeled clothing from Vintage Values, the shelter’s retail shops.
If you missed the luncheon, a dinner and live auction will be held at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside at 6:00 p.m.
