Another drug bust for Wilmington Police Department
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– It’s another drug bust for the Wilmington Police Department. After receiving some complaints from neighbors, a member of the Wilmington Police Narcotics Unit checked in on Friday. A detective knocked on the door of 226 Davie Drive and then entered the residence upon receiving consent to search.
Inside the house, detectives discovered 168 grams of marijuana packaged for sale in smaller amounts. In addition, they seized four rifles and two handguns (a .45 pistol and a .22 derringer). One of the weapons had been reported stolen in Wilmington in 2009.
Both the man and women living at the residence now face numerous charges.
Judith K. Balloon was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, maintaining a dwelling for drugs, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell/deliver a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school, and manufacturing a schedule VI controlled substance (for growing a marijuana plant in the yard).
Balloon was released on $100,000 unsecured bond.
Darryl Andre Newkirk faces all the same charges as Balloon, in addition to being charged on an outstanding civil contempt warrant for non-payment of child support. He remains in custody at the New Hanover County detention facility after receiving $100,000 unsecured bond on today’s charges and $16,000 secured bond on the outstanding warrant.
