Oak Island business owner sentenced for drug trafficking
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An Oak Island business owner will spend more than two years behind bars after being convicted of drug trafficking.
Charles Overman owner of Overman Electric, Inc., received a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 months in prison after pleading guilty to trafficking more than 25 pounds of marijuana.
Prosecutors say Overman’s case stems from an investigation by the Brunswick County Narcotics Task Force on Oak Island into the trafficking of prescription pills and marijuana by Overman and others in North Carolina counties bordering the state of Virginia.
Search Warrants executed at Overman’s business, his home and his vehicles revealed both marijuana and illicit prescription narcotics that were part of a weekly distribution network, the District Attorney’s Office said.
