More than 40 apply for CFCC president

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — Cape Fear Community College is moving closer to finding a new president. The CFCC Presidential Search Committee met on May 16 and were tasked to review two dozen applications and rank the top 12.

The diverse 23-member committee is made up of current and former members of CFCC Board of Trustees, members of the CFCC Foundation Board of Directors, college faculty, staff and a student representative.

The college received a total of 41 applications, 13 of which came from current college presidents from 20 different states and Canada.

CFCC Personnel Director John Upton stated that he worked with CFCC’s search consultant Dr. Donny Hunter to cull the initial pool of 41 applicants down to 25 based on the minimum qualifications required for the job.

“We have some good candidates, there’s no question about it,” Upton said.

Dr. Hunter stressed the importance of keeping the search process absolutely confidential until the finalists are chosen. Each search committee member signed a confidentiality agreement which prohibits the sharing of information about individual candidates.

The committee will meet again on May 31 to determine the top 12 candidates who will move forward in the process. From the twelve selected, the group will be narrowed to six finalists to be interviewed by the CFCC Board of Trustees.

CFCC’s current president Dr. Eric McKeithan will retire from the college on June 30. Earlier this week, the trustees selected Dr. Frank Sells to serve as CFCC’s interim president starting on July 1.
