Wrightsville Beach to crack down on visitors parking in neighborhoods

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Don’t expect much free parking at Wrightsville Beach this summer. Town leaders say starting Memorial Day, if you park in the residential parking district without a permit you’re likely to get a ticket.

No parking signs are nothing new in Wrightsville Beach’s Harbor Island neighborhood, but town leader say law enforcement will start paying more attention to parking violators.

Town Manager Bob Simpson says resident complaints led to the ordinance Aldermen passed last week.

Residents say visitors block their driveways and park in their lawns to avoid paying for parking.

People we spoke with looking for free parking say they’ll just park elsewhere.

“What I’m going to have to start doing is probably farther up the road down by the park and just start making a longer walk, so it’s still free just because there is very limited parking here,” visitor Dan Schillaci said.

Town leaders say there is overflow parking by the museum, recreation area and in front of town hall. On peak weekends they will also open up the grassy area in front of the old fire station.
