NC unemployment rate continues slow decline
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina’s unemployment rate has fallen to 9.4 percent, continuing a slow decline that began almost a year ago.
The state Division of Labor and Economic Analysis on Friday released the unemployment figures for April, showing the rate fell from 9.7 percent a month earlier and 10.4 percent from April 2011.
The figures show the number of unemployed people in the state decreased by more than 12,000 to almost 440,000 people. The number of employed people increased slightly by more than 1,400 over the month and by more than 63,000 over the year.
North Carolina’s unemployment continues to be higher than the national rate, which fell slightly to 8.1 percent in April. .
