STORMTRACK 3: Beryl makes landfall over Florida, rain to head our way Wednesday.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tropical Storm Beryl plowed into north Florida Sunday night, passing directly over Jacksonville as a strong Tropical Storm with winds up to 70 mph.

As of Monday morning, the storm continue to make its way inland over Florida, slowly moving to the west. Beryl is expected to continue weakening, eventually into a tropical depression with weaker winds. She will gradually meander into southern Georgia through Tuesday. A cold front from the west will pick up the remnants of Beryl and accelerate the storm northward. This means we can expect whatever is left of Beryl to head our way by Wednesday morning.

Here’s what we expect. For today and tomorrow, we’ll still see some sunshine across the area — but a few tropical rainbands will send showers and storms onshore from time to time. By Wednesday morning, we’ll experience a period of heavy rain, with some gusty (but not severe) winds. Moisture from Beryl will leave us quickly Wednesday afternoon, with some dry air building in. Dangerous rip currents will remain a concern at the beaches.

There are currently no watches/warnings in effect for our area. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for parts of Georgia and Florida.

Stay tuned to WWAY for updates, and head to Hurricanes 101.
