STORMTRACK 3: TD Beryl inches closer, heavy rain starts tonight

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Beryl is now on the move and is pushing through South Carolina. The storm remains a tropical depression but is still well organized. It will accelerate into southeastern North Carolina overnight.

Here’s what we expect: After midnight, the start of the tropical rains from Beryl will arrive in the area. Expect heavy downpours from time to time, especially along the coast. As the storm moves overhead, some modest wind gusts up to 25-30 mph will be possible – but this is not a major threat. The period of heavy rain should last through midday Wednesday, and if things pan out just right, we could end up with several inches (1-3") of total rain. A Flood Watch is in effect through Wednesday evening.

By late Wednesday afternoon, the storm will be offshore and dry air will begin to build into the area. This will leave us with sunshine for Thursday.

Right now, there are currently no tropical watches/warnings in effect for our area.

Stay tuned to WWAY for updates, and head to Hurricanes 101.
