STORMTRACK 3: Severe T-Storm Watch in effect for SE NC; hail, damaging winds possible through 10pm
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Severe weather will be possible across the entire state through the late afternoon and evening, including Southeastern North Carolina. We’re forecasting strong to severe thunderstorms that will have the chance to produce damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado will be possible.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 10pm. This means that severe weather is possible — and that you need to be alert. Keep an eye to the sky, and make sure you’re in touch with us here at WWAY. Should any severe weather form, we will pass along the warnings to you on-air, online, and on Facebook and Twitter.
A powerful cold front is marching across the East Coast. This is what will spark the storms, which have plenty of fuel to work with, given the heat and humidity in the air today. Farther north, toward the Virginia border and into the DC Metro area, a large tornado outbreak is possible. Our threat is not as high as that.
