New Hanover Commissioners talk trash, budget tonight

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tonight is your chance to sound off about the New Hanover County budget.

Commissioners are looking at a revenue neutral tax rate of 55.5 cents for FY2012/13. It’s a higher rate than last year to off-set a $5 billion loss in property value countywide.

You can voice your opinion at the public hearing during the commission meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at the Historic New Hanover County Courthouse in downtown WIlmington.

Before their regular meeting, commissioners will hold a work session on the proposed service contract with Covanta Energy Corporation to operate the New Hanover County Sustainable Energy Facility/WASTEC. That meeting starts at 4 p.m.
