NC lawmakers back crimes on terrorism, child sale

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – The General Assembly is working toward creating new crimes in North Carolina that attempt to punish people who participate in terrorism and sell or buy a child.

The House gave unanimous final legislative approval Monday evening to a bill creating a new offense of terrorism, which is defined as violent acts designed to intimidate the population or a government. The crime is generally one felony grade more serious than the violent offense. That bill now goes to Gov. Beverly Perdue for her consideration.

The Senate also gave unanimous approval Monday to creating the offense of the illegal sale, surrender of purchase of a child. The offender could receive several years in prison and at least a $10,000 fine for a first violation. The bill now goes to the House.
