Currie celebrates unity of community, country
CURRIE, NC (WWAY) — The day to celebrate our country’s independence is just days away, but some folks got an early start this weekend.
For the fourth year in a row, a Fourth of July parade rolled through the streets of Currie. Founder of the event, Roshawn McIntyre says the town and the parade may be small, but the celebration grows every year. She said the idea to start the parade came after an inspiring sermon from her pastor.
“If it was not for the people, the support from all the communities,” McIntyre said. “It’s not just about Currie. It’s about everybody because everybody is somebody.”
McIntyre said unity is what sets Currie apart, and she’s happy the parade can celebrate the unity of the community as well as our country.
WWAY’s own Ashley Jacobs made an appearance in the parade. She got to ride along in an antique car.
