NC–9th District-Debate 9th District GOP hopefuls in NC runoff debate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Two Republican candidates for a Charlotte-area congressional district have held their one and only primary runoff debate, which featured allegations of ethics blunders and flip-flopping on issues.

Former state Sen. Robert Pittenger and Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jim Pendergraph taped a television debate Monday that was scheduled to air on two local stations.

The Charlotte Observer reported (http://bit.ly/LK5s1t ) Pendergraph accused Pittenger of acting unlawfully through a Senate annexation bill vote that affected property he owned outside Charlotte. Pittenger said he did nothing wrong.

Pittenger in turn argued that Pendergraph has changed positions on immigration and taxes.

The winner of next week’s 9th Congressional District runoff will take on Democrat Jennifer Roberts in November. GOP U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick isn’t running for re-election for the 9th District seat.
