Dalton raises half of GOP rival for NC governor
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina Democratic governor candidate Walter Dalton says his campaign collected more than $1 million in a little more than two months, less than half of Republican Pat McCrory’s take during the same period.
Dalton’s campaign said Wednesday in a campaign finance report to the state elections board it raised $1.05 million between late April and June 30. His campaign entered July with $714,000 in cash.
McCrory’s campaign reports it had nearly $4.4 million on hand entering the year’s second half. McCrory says he raised $2.2 million during the 10-week reporting period.
Dalton’s campaign said the fundraising gap is due in part to McCrory having little opposition in the Republican primary while Dalton won a hotly contested primary after Gov. Beverly Perdue’s late decision against running for re-election.
