McCrory wants more info on health care overhaul

CARY, N.C. (AP) – Republican gubernatorial nominee Pat McCrory is taking a wait-and-see approach before announcing whether he’d seek to curtail North Carolina’s involvement in the federal health care overhaul law if he’s elected governor.

McCrory said Wednesday more information is needed before he decides whether it would make sense for the state to expand Medicaid coverage to hundreds of thousands more people.

The Affordable Care Act would have required the state to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to help pay for that coverage. But the U.S. Supreme Court last month ruled the federal government can’t penalize states that choose not to expand Medicaid.

McCrory said he would like to see the entire health care overhaul law repealed. In the meantime, some Republican governors in the South have said they won’t expand Medicaid.
