Company says Time Warner can’t use PA station

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) – The company that owns the Pennsylvania NBC affiliate that’s replacing one of its network counterparts in North Carolina says Time Warner Cable may have misappropriated its signal.

The cable company and the parent firm of WXII in Winston-Salem have failed to resolve a contract dispute, taking the station off the air and substituting it with WBRE in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

A statement issued Thursday from Nexstar Broadcasting Group said Time Warner didn’t have permission to use the WBRE signal. The Irving, Texas-based company said it would pursue all legal and regulatory means to stop Time Warner from broadcasting WBRE in Winston-Salem.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that Time Warner contends it’s within its rights to use the WBRE signal.

Winston-Salem viewers need a digital antenna to see WXII programming.
