NC candidates reminding people there’s a primary

Associated Press

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina’s primary runoff campaign is wrapping up with candidates still trying to get the word out that there is voting actually happening Tuesday.

Fifteen pairs of candidates are running for party nominations for Council of State positions and congressional and legislative seats. These candidates failed to get the more than 40 percent of the vote necessary in the May primary to avoid a runoff.

County elections directors say turnout during the early-voting period that ended Saturday was low. Fewer than 37,000 people have cast ballots so far statewide.

Republican candidates for lieutenant governor Dan Forest and Tony Gurley said many people still don’t know there is voting Tuesday. Forest was going door-to-door Monday in Mecklenburg County while Gurley was phoning undecided voters.
