FIRST ON 3: City didn’t reach deal with Mandalay/Braves this week
WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — Negotiations on a proposed baseball stadium have concluded for this week. City officials were meeting with representatives from Mandalay/Atlanta Braves, but have not yet finalized a deal. Negotiations are expected to be wrapped up in time for City Council to take action at their Aug. 7 City Council meeting.
The special meeting scheduled for July 24 will still be held as it is needed for City Council to set a public hearing date on Aug. 7 in order to issue bonds for the project and put the issue on the November ballot, if Council decides to move forward once negotiations are finalized. If Council does decide to move forward, City Council has indicated that the referendum amount would be less than $42 million, but that was the highest dollar amount cited in the feasibility study and therefore identified as the maximum amount that could be on the ballot.
