Drought returns to Southeastern North Carolina

 WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Parts of Brunswick and New Hanover Counties have officially regained drought status this morning. The latest report from the U.S. Drought monitor upgraded the two coastal counties in its latest report this morning. Parts of Columbus and Pender counties are classified as "abnormally dry".

The entire country has been feeling the pain of long periods without significant rainfall. Here in North Carolina, the last several years have been particularly dry – which has been especially difficult for farmers.

As of Thursday morning, Wilmington reported a nearly ten inch rainfall deficit for 2012. In 2011, the area fell shy of it’s normal rainfall by over 10 inches.
