Bill Friday to return as host of UNC-TV program
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) – UNC President Emeritus Bill Friday is returning for another year as host of “North Carolina People with William Friday.”
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that it’s UNC-TV’s longest-running original program, and the 42nd season debuts on Friday with an interview with retired Gen. Hugh Shelton. Friday said the Shelton interview will touch on foreign policy topics but also on Shelton’s leadership program at N.C. State University.
The 91-year-old Friday was hospitalized in May, when he received a permanent pacemaker.
UNC-TV spokesman Steve Volstad said the production schedule for this new season may be adjusted early so that Friday won’t be filming a new episode every week.
Soon after the upcoming show will be a repeat of an interview Friday did with the late Andy Griffith in 2005.
