Man accused of threatening deputy with golf club
BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Bladen County man is in jail accused of threatening a sheriff’s deputy with a golf club.
The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office says it arrested Joseph Lewis Branch, 57, of 73 Graham Blanks Rd. in Riegelwood Wednesday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic call at the home when they say Branch came out holding a golf club in a threatening manner toward a deputy. Investigators say the deputy told Branch several times to put the club down. When he did drop it and tried to go back inside, the deputy reportedly had to physically subdue Branch.
Investigators say Branch had been drinking. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and resisting arrest.
Branch is in the Bladen County Jail under a $4,000 secured bond.
