Two County Sting Busts Puppy Mill

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — In a two county sting operation Sheriff’s offices coordinated to bust a dog breeding operation Friday afternoon. It was profitable for the owners, deplorable for the animals.

“I’m shocked to say the least,” said, Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram. “Personally I’ve never seen anything quite like this. The inside of the residences and behind the residence are some of the worst conditions I’ve ever experienced on anything I’ve ever been on”. Ingram said.

An anonymous tip led law enforcement to a house at 2059 Mako Road in Brunswick County where the Sheriff’s office and Humane Society found horrible conditions.

The house had dogs packed together in dirty conditions with no air conditioning.

“There are approximately 100 to 120 animals in this house, this is a breeding facility the staging area for this is in New Hanover.” Said, Kim Alboum, North Carolina director of the Humane Society of the U.S. who coordinated today’s raid with law enforcement. “This is where all the puppies are born and where all the mothers are and this is a puppy mill.” Alboum explained

New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies raided another house near UNCW and found more dogs involved in the breeding operation.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested Amelia and Andrew Millis, in connection with the operation and the filthy conditions of the animals.

Both Brunswick County and new Hanover County Sheriff’s offices will continue to investigate and determine what charges the Millis’ will face.
