2 NC road workers killed by errant vehicle
MURPHY, NC (AP) — Two North Carolina Transportation Department employees are dead after a vehicle veered off a mountain road and crashed into the construction site where they were working.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports the crash happened Friday afternoon as a crew of five worked on the northbound shoulder of state highway N.C. 60 west of Murphy. The State Highway Patrol is investigating why it happened.
Authorities say the vehicle struck the two workers and their dump truck. Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Wood said charges against the driver are pending but didn’t identify him. He was treated for injuries at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The names of the victims have not been released.
