Tropical Depression 9 forms. Could impact East Coast next week
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A strong area of thunderstorms is now Tropical Depression #9 in the central Atlantic Ocean. The storm is expected to strengthen over the coming days and head west.
If it does strenthen as expected, Tropical Storm Isaac will push through the Leeward Islands Wednesday and then enter the Caribbean Sea. Right now, it looks like conditions are favorable for significant strenghtening there, and Isaac could become a sizeable hurricane by this weekend.
As the storm continues to head west in the Caribbean Sea, we will need to watch it’s progress very closely. Early indications from computer models and weather patterns show that this storm should turn northward and could impact the East Coast next week. Tracks like this have been seen by many past storms that have eventually made landfall in North Carolina.
As we enter the heart of hurricane season, now is the time to re-visit your hurricane plan and make sure you have all the supplies you and your family need to get through a storm.
As always you can get up to the minute updates from the StormTrack 3 Weather Team at Hurricanes 101.
