Testimony begins in 2008 murder case
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — A man accused of the 2008 murder of a Shallotte realtor is finally getting his day in court. Craig Bryant is charged with killing Adam Bradshaw on a dirt road.
The first witness the prosecution called was the victim’s father-in-law, who delivered emotional testimony about the night Bradshaw went missing four years ago.
“We thought maybe he was on a real estate deal, because normally he calls home,” Guilford Bass said. “Of course (Adam’s wife) Shannon was very concerned, because they talked quite a bit on the telephone, and he always let her know where he was.”
The defense worked to weaken Bass’s credibility by finding holes in statements he made to police in the days after the disappearance about his son-in-law’s business dealings.
“Do you recall telling the detective that the Friday morning Adam disappeared that Mr. Bartlett and Adam went to the bank and Adam was bragging about money and told this to the bank tellers that he was bragging about getting this money?” a defense attorney asked.
Bass said he did not recall that.
Day two of the murder trial is expected to be full of fireworks with both the prosecution and the defense calling key witnesses.
Lora Moultrie was also charged in Bradshaw’s murder. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. She is expected to testify against bryant.
