Isaac still weak; could intensify tonight
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Isaac is just a weak tropical storm this morning, and is undergoing some re-organization. Even so, the storm is over extremely warm water with favorable winds that should allow for intensification over the next 2 days.
By tomorrow night, the storm will approach the Dominican Republic. This will be a key phase for the storm as the tall mountains of the island could possibly dramatically weaken, or even destroy Isaac.
Is Isaac makes it through the islands alright, the storm will then near southern Florida by Sunday. No threats to us this weekend.
Computer model solutions still remain highly varied beyond Monday, with some models suggesting a track into the Gulf of Mexico, or the east or west coast of Florida. The latest trends have been favoring a western track, but we are remaining cautious until the storm makes it through Hispaniola. We’re not in the clear just yet. It should be noted that history does not support an eastern Gulf track.
Continue to track the daily progress with the StormTrack 3 Weather Team. This is a good time to revisit your hurricane plan and make sure you are ready for any potential threats as we near the heart of hurricane season.
