City Council still can’t come to agreement with Mandalay
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington announced this afternoon in a news release that it still can’t come to an agreement with Mandalay Baseball Properties and the Atlanta Braves to build a baseball stadium.
That means council will not be able to vote on the proposal at Tuesday’s meeting, so it has pushed the vote back to September 18.
The city approved putting a $37 million bond referendum on the November ballot to raise property taxes to build the stadium.
This week, New Hanover County Commissioner Jason Thompson told us that Ripken Design showed interest in building a stadium here too, but without taxpayer money.
