Murder suspect’s attorney cross-examines co-defendant
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Testimony continued today in the murder trial of Craig Bryant in Brunswick County.
Bryant’s girlfriend at the time of the murder, Lora Moultrie, remained on the stand today. This time, the defense had their turn to question her.
Thursday, the defense began to breakdown why Moultrie can not be trusted and what would motivate her to turn on someone she was romantically involved with at the time of Adam Bradshaw’s murder.
Bryant’s attorney says his defense is based on the idea that Moultrie is sacrificing Bryant in order to get a better deal for herself. By his calculations, Moultrie would only have to serve a little more than three additional years after this trial if the District Attorney’s office determines she was helpful to their case against Craig Bryant.
District Attorney Jon David says the facts are the facts and that is why Moultrie was asked to testify.
Bryant’s attorney says Shallotte real estate agent Adam Bradshaw was killed by someone else, despite Moultrie revealing in court Thursday that Bryant told her Bradshaw’s body was heavy when he was trying to dispose of it.
Details of a lie detector test were discussed with Moultrie as well, but by the judge’s orders, the jury is not to know that Moultrie ever took a polygraph test. The results of that test were not revealed in court, yet.
Moultrie allegedly told detectives in 2008 during an interview that Bradshaw was a drug dealer. Bryant’s attorney says details like that are key to his argument that he plans to prove with his witnesses begin to take the stand next week.
He also says that Moultrie is simply repeating what she was told by investigators during previous interviews but Moultrie says she knows what happened and what Craig Bryant did to get his family’s land back.
Moultrie has been in custody since May 2008 and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree conspiracy to commit murder last July. Moultrie admitted that she called Adam Bradshaw and asked him to meet her at a property on Watt Road and knew that’s where Craig Bryant planned to kill him.
