STORMTRACK 3: Tornado watches posted north of our area; damaging winds possible
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Damaging winds, and even an isolated tornado will be possible across North Carolina today, especially the central and northern parts of the state. A strong system is crossing the southeast, and has many ingredients of a severe weather outbreak.
A strong cold front to our west is allowing tropical moisture to surge up the East Coast. As this front pushes farther east, it will spark some showers and thunderstorms. With high winds just above the surface, it will be easy for any storms that do form to turn severe.
The main threat today in Southeastern North Carolina will be damaging winds up to 60-70 mph, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Stay with the StormTrack 3 Weather Team throughout the day for updates on the weather.
