2 candidates for NC office named in police report
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina political experts say a police report naming two Republican Wake County school board members could damage their election bids for state government offices next month.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported over the weekend school board member Debra Goldman once named fellow member Chris Malone a suspect in a burglary at her home. Goldman is running for state auditor and Malone for the House.
The newspaper cited a police report it obtained and police aren’t required for release as a public record. The report said Malone was dropped as a suspect but that Goldman and Malone gave conflicting statements about whether they had a romantic relationship. Both are married.
William Peace University professor David McLennan said Monday the information will help Democratic State Auditor Beth Wood.
