NC school district accused in sex abuse lawsuit
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – A North Carolina school district is being sued by the family of an elementary school girl who was sexually molested by a teacher.
The lawsuit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Asheville accuses Burke County Public Schools of failing to protect the 8-year-old girl and dozens of others. Fifty-four-year-old Michael Alexander is serving 50 years in prison in the international child pornography case.
Alexander was the 8-year-old girl’s teacher at Hildebran Elementary School. The lawsuit says Alexander was allowed to excuse girls from school activities. Then he sexually abused them in classrooms and posted the videos. The lawsuit said 50 girls could have been victims.
The pornography was discovered this year after an international police organization found online photos of young girls wearing Hildebran T-shirts.
