FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: DA to hold news conference on trooper sex assault claims
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After months of investigating, we should find out this morning whether a Wilmington-based Highway Patrol trooper will face charges in connection with a Brunswick County woman’s claims he raped her.
District Attorney Ben David will hold a news conference at his office at 10:30 a.m. to address the allegations. As WWAY reporter earlier this week, the State Bureau of Investigation has finished looking at the case, the findings of which went to the DA and the Attorney General’s Office to determine if there should be any charges.
Back in July a Brunswick County woman reported Phillips raped her in his Wilmington home after they met on an online dating site. Phillips has been on administrative duty while the allegations were under investigation.
