Old commissioners say goodbye as new faces join boards

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s transition time in local government.

Winners of last month’s elections for New Hanover County Commission will be sworn in, including two newcomers. Beth Dawson and Woody White and incumbent Jonathan Barfield will take their oath of office.

The three all have said the first item on their agenda will be what to do with solid waste and WASTEC.

In Brunswick County, it’s also a changing of the guard.

Long-time Commissioner Bill Sue is stepping down after nearly two decades in office. Fellow Republican Frank Williams will take Sue’s seat.

Commissioner Charles Warren is also leaving. He’s replaced by Pat Sykes, who defeated Warren in May’s Republican primary.
