One Day Blitz smashes record for Salvation Army donations
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Christmas is just days away, and today the Wilmington community showed some true holiday spirit by joining WWAY and 103.7 The Bone to open their hearts, wallets and pantries to support the One Day Blitz to restock the Salvation Army food pantry at Krispy Kreme.
Though the final tally will take some time, the Salvation Army estimates we collected more than 12,500 pounds of non-perishible food items and upwards of $2,000 in monetary donations. Those amounts easily smashed records set last year, when we collected more than 8,300 pounds of food and more than $1,500.
The One Day Blitz is the Salvation Army’s single largest food drive of the year. The food collected will help feed about 5,000 families in need in our community for several months to come.
Thanks to all of you who took time to make this year’s One Day Blitz a huge success!
