NC workers want voice in compensation study

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — State workers and their advocates say the employees deserve a voice in a study that legislators are planning of North Carolina’s compensation plans.

Some workers will hold a news conference Wednesday at the General Assembly building to demand that the study include public hearings where workers and constituents can comment. The workers will be joined by members UE Local 105 and supporters from the N.C. Justice Center and the N.C. Student Power Union.

Larsene Taylor is a health care technician at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro and vice president of UE 150. She says state workers already can’t support their families on their low wages.

Legislators plan a study of state workers’ compensation plans, including personnel protections, career status and longevity pay.
