2 NC motorists charged with DWI after fatal crash
LUMBERTON, N.C. (AP) – Authorities have charged two motorists from Robeson County with driving while impaired after an all-terrain vehicle was struck from behind by a car, killing the passenger on the ATV.
The N.C. Highway Patrol said 39-year-old Guster Sylvester Scott of Fairmont, was traveling north near Lumberton on an all-terrain vehicle that had no working tail lights, The ATV was traveling about 35 mph in the 55-mph zone early Tuesday morning when it was struck by a 1986 Ford driven by 52-year-old Melvin Eddy Oxendine of Lumberton.
The patrol said 25-year-old Casie Shannon Blue was the passenger on the ATV. She and Scott were thrown from the vehicle, which along with the car ended up in a ditch. Scott was treated and released from Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
