Schools locked down after report of shots fired
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Four schools are on lockdown as police search for a suspect.
Rachel Freeman School of Engineering, Mosley Performance Learning Center, Snipes Elementary School and the Child Development Center are currently under lockdown.
Officials say Wilmington Police officers were trying to serve warrants to a man who fired shots and ran into nearby woods.
Authorities say the lockdowns are a precautionary measure until the suspect is detained and that all children are currently OK. All schools already had a deputy on duty, but the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is sending more deputies to the area at this time.
WWAY has a crew on the scene. We’ll have more information as soon as it becomes available.
