STORMTRACK 3: Tornado Watch in effect, strong storms on the move
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Tornado Watch remains in effect for most of southeastern NC until 2:00 AM. A "watch" means that conditions are favorable for severe weather to develop. A strong cold front will push into eastern North Carolina late tonight. As the front pushes toward the coast, severe thunderstorms will be possible. An isolated tornado is possible as well. The highest chance of severe weather will occur between 10 PM and 2 AM. By dawn, the storm system will be offshore.
Colder, drier air is expected Thursday and Friday.
- Gusty SW winds at 20-30 mph through early evening (a few gusts over 45 mph possible), with a few showers
- Between 10 PM and 2 AM, possible severe thunderstorms.
- Spotty power outages are possible tonight due to gusty winds.
- Storm system exits the coast before sunrise
