UPDATE: Surf City motel destroyed, one person in hospital
SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — An early morning fire burns an entire building of a Surf City motel to the ground, and injures at least one person.
A man is in the hospital with burns on hands, feet and face. His name is not yet being released, but SBI investigators are with the victim at the hospital.
Two people were staying in a room inside the motel where the fire started.
Tiffany’s Motel went up in flames just after 3 a.m., and that fire spread to two homes. The flames are out at this time, but firefighters are not entering the motel until the daylight allows them to see.
Strong winds caused flames to quickly spread to nearby homes, destroying one and badly burning another.
No one was home at either house that caught fire, and both of those fires are under control.
Sneads Ferry and Turkey Creek fire crews helped knock down the flames, but firefighters are still on scene keeping an eye on hot spots at the motel.
10 to 15 guests were checked in to the building across the street, that is also part of Tiffany’s motel, but it was not involved in fire.
The motel manager says anyone who has reservations will be accommodated in larger building that remains undamaged from the fires.
