Police and Firefighters face off in a Charity hockey game
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several members of the Wilmington Police and Fire departments took a break from fighting fire and crime Saturday night to instead raise over 2,000 dollars for charity. Officers laced up their skates and squared off at the Wilmington Icehouse in Ogden, drawing in lots of fans who packed the ice house.
Tickets were 5 dollars at the gate, and the proceeds went to the construction of a memorial at the Empie Park Fire Station. The Wilmington Firefighters’ Memorial will honor Wilmington firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The memorial will also carry the names of the New York City firefighters killed at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Wilmington Fire Department won the game, 10-0. The departments hope to make this an annual event. Next year, the proceeds will benefit a police department charity.
