Onslow County breaks ground on government complex
JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) — Onslow County commissioners have broken ground for a new $22 million government complex outside of Jacksonville.
Ground was broken on Thursday for the complex that will bring together 12 departments now located at eight different sites in the county.
City officials in Jacksonville opposed the location because it will move county offices out of the downtown area. Half the population of the county lives in Jacksonville and the new location is more than three miles outside of town.
County Manager Jeffery Hudson says the new location will make the county operations more efficient and effective. County officials say it will provide one stop shopping for those who need to do business with the county government.
